Moscow, Russia: prices of Serbian Idared apples up by 50% year-on-year

According to Russian wholesale companies, current prices of Idared apples of Serbian origin vary between RUB 50-60/kg (USD 0.76-0.92/kg), an increase of at least 50% year-on-year.

For comparison, those apples were offered at RUB 30-33/kg (USD 0.46-0.50/kg) in early February 2014. A year-on-year increase in prices is registered due to the Russian ruble devaluation.

It should also be noted that Serbia now is the main exporter of apples to the Russian market; while a year before Polish exporters were the leaders.

We would remind you that Russia stopped purchasing apples from the Western Europe and Moldova in summer 2014 after introduction of the ban on imports. As a result, Serbia became the largest supplier and significantly raised its apple export volumes.
