Ukraine: onion prices up by a third week-on-week at wholesale markets
According to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring, sellers from almost all Ukrainian wholesale markets say of an ongoing increase in onion prices.
In particular, onions have become 25% more expensive at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Region, compared with the previous week. For the present, sellers are ready to ship those vegetables at UAH 3.00-3.80/kg (EUR 0.11-0.14/kg) against no higher than UAH 3/kg (EUR 0.11/kg) a week before.
Onion prices vary between UAH 3.50-4.50/kg (EUR 0.13-0.16/kg) at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, an increase of 30-35% week-on-week.
The sharpest increase in prices is registered at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev: up by 33-35% to UAH 3.50-4.00/kg (EUR 0.13-0.14/kg).
Ongoing growth in onion prices is registered in Ukraine thanks to high demand for Ukrainian onions both in the internal market and outside of the country. More detailed information about the Eastern European onion market outlook will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2015», which will be held on February 27, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
