Ukrainian pear market up by 70% in value
The Ukrainian fresh produce market analysts assess the sales of pears in Ukraine to have exceeded UAH 3 bln (113, 21 mln euro) in the season 2014/15, an increase of almost 70% compared with the previous season, when they stood at just UAH 1.8 bln.
Such a growth was registered thanks to higher prices of pears quoted in the national currency. In view of the devaluation of the Ukrainian hryvnia, imported pears have become significantly more expensive, which also enabled domestic growers to raise their prices. As a result, pear prices averaged UAH 22/kg (0.83 euro/kg) in the outgoing season against standing at just UAH 13/kg in the previous marketing year.
However, as regards the Ukrainian pear market in euro terms, its value decreased by 20%. As regards the market volume, it also went down by 5% both due to lower domestic production and imports.
