Russian canneries plan to raise production of canned vegetables
According to Fruit-Inform, Russian canneries plan to raise their production of canned vegetables by at least a third in the season 2015/16.
Processors connect such a decision with a sharp increase in the demand for domestic canned products in the previous season. Fruit-Inform analysts say that Russian canneries faced no competition with Ukrainian processors in the season 2014/15 and were able to raise their sales volumes. It should be noted that Russian processing enterprises' stocks of canned vegetables are now almost fully exhausted, while a season before sales were registered until the mid-summer.
Processors say of canned cucumbers and squash spread to have been in highest demand among canned vegetables in the outgoing season and plan to raise production of those categories in the first instance.
According to the official statistics, in the season 2013/14, Ukraine was the fifth largest exporter of canned fruits and vegetables to the Russian Federation and accounted for the share of 11% of Russia's total imports of those products. Ukrainian canned vegetable salads and cucumbers were the most popular export categories.
