Russia to face low stonefruit production this year

Russian production of plums, peaches and apricots is expected to be low this year due to significant drops in temperature, says Mr. Igor Mukhanin, President of Association of Fruit Growers of Russia.

«Winter was mild. Sweet cherry, peach, plum and apricot crops have suffered in the southern regions. Significant drops in temperature were registered: an increase during daytime, and a fall to 20 degrees below zero at night. As a result, almost all stonefruit plantations have seriously suffered, except for those located in the coastal regions», he says.

At the same time, Mr. Mukhanin expects good apple production. «The situation with the apple crop is fine, we expect good apple production this year», he adds.
