Moldova leads in wine exports to Belarus
The Republic of Moldova has reduced wine exports to Belarus in Q1 2015 compared with the same period of the previous year. However, despite a fall in exports, Moldova remained the leading wine exporter to the Belarusian market.
According to the official statistics, in January-March 2015, Moldova exported 1.141 mln decaliters of wines to Belarus valued at $6.77 mln. Despite the export volumes to have declined just by 1%, exports in the value terms have fallen by 21%, as exports in the same period of the previous year totaled 1.155 mln decaliters valued at $8.61 mln.
In Q1 2015 Belarus also reduced cumulative imports of wines by 4% year-on-year to 1.2 mln decaliters valued at $7.79 mln (-33% year-on-year). As a result, Moldova's share in the Belarusian wine market stood at 87%.
In addition to Moldova, the group of top five wine exporters to Belarus includes Spain, France, Ukraine and Georgia, which shares, however, are not high in the Belarusian market.
