Ukrainian growers expect lower production of Golden Delicious apples this year
Ukrainian growers are seriously concerned about the situation with blossoming in apple orchards (especially those focused on production of Golden Delicious apples) in the current season. Due to a cold spell in autumn in the western and northern regions as well as rather cold spring, growers say of mixed situation with blossoming and large percentage of barren flowers.
«In general, the situation with orchards is satisfactory this year with large declines expected only in production of Golden Delicious and Reinette Simirenko apples», says a Ukrainian grower.
It should be noted that Golden Delicious is one of the most popular varieties among Ukrainian growers; therefore, a decrease in production of those apples will negatively affect Ukraine's total apple production.
We would remind you that WAPA ranks Golden Delicious as the second after Idared most popular apple variety in Ukraine with the share of about 18% in Ukraine's total apple production.
