Ukrainian fresh produce price index down again last week

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has declined by 9.5% in the week from July 25th to 31st again due to a seasonal factor, after a decrease of 12.1% a week before.

As a result, fruits and vegetables have become almost a third less expensive over July 2015. Nevertheless, prices of all fresh produce categories (except cucumbers) are still significantly higher year-on-year.

«End of July – beginning of August is traditionally the period of the highest supply of seasonal products in Ukraine, which usually results in negative price trend in the market. The year 2015 was not an exception, and fruits (melons and watermelons mainly) made the largest contribution to a decline in the fresh produce price index last week», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «An ongoing decrease in prices of greenhouse and field-grown seasonal vegetables as well as traditional vegetables should also be noted. At the same time, some jumps in their prices can be registered in the nearest time due to an expected inter-season period in their growing».

It should also be noted that Ukrainian fruits and vegetables are still in high demand in the Russian and Belarusian markets thanks to their lower prices in the USD equivalent. The demand in Crimea is also high in view of lack of irrigation potential there.

We would remind you that more detailed information about current developments in the Russian and Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market is available for the subscribers of Fruit-Inform service packages.
