Apples expand their share in Ukrainians' fruit consumption structure

Apples managed to become the leading category in Ukrainians' fruit consumption structure in the past season. The market analysts assess apples to account for the share of 33% in fruit consumption in the season 2014/15 against just 28% a season before.

Such a result was registered thanks to a general decline in the supply of imported fruits in Ukraine and their higher prices. For example, banana imports went down by 25% year-on-year, while citrus imports were at least 15% lower.

Apples also were the most affordable fruit for Ukrainians despite their prices having more than tripled in the period from harvesting to the end of spring. We would remind you that apple prices stood at no lower than UAH 13-15/kg (USD 0.59-0.68/kg) in May 2015. For comparison, banana prices varied between UAH 27-30/kg (USD 1.20-1.38/kg), and oranges were offered at UAH 20-30/kg (USD 0.98-1.38/kg) in the same period.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Ukrainian apple market developments will be presented at the 5th International Conference «Apple Business of Ukraine-2015», which is going to take place on August 13-14, Kleopatra Hotel, Kamyanets-Podilskyi, Ukraine.
