Apple processing up in Poland due to Russia's ban
Polish growers were forced to increase their apple sales for processing after introduction of the ban on imports in Russia: up to 60% of all grown apples were processed in Poland in the past season against no higher than 50% in the previous ones. As a result, Poland has faced an increase in production of both apple juice concentrate and cider, said Ms. Malgorzata Gawin, Representative of Embassy of Poland to Ukraine, at the 5th International Conference «Apple Business of Ukraine-2015».
«As Russia had not introduced the ban on imports of Polish apple juice concentrate, many wholesale companies focused on its sales», said she. «Poland's AJC exports to Russia have grown by 34% and reached 12,000 tons in the first half of the season 2014/15. Exports to other European countries also increased».
Moreover, domestic products popularization programs have resulted in a significant increase in cider production. Polish manufacturers produced 10 mln liters of cider in 2014 against just 2 mln liters a year before and are expected to raise their manufacturing volumes to 20 mln liters in 2015.
