Ukraine: Crimean growers raise apple prices

The Crimean market participants say of an increase in local growers' prices for apples.

Prices have grown by 10-14% week-on-week and now vary between RUB 40-55/kg (USD 0.53-0.73/kg), depending on variety and quality.

Growers managed to raise their prices thanks to lower competition with Ukrainian produce in the Crimean market. The market operators say of problems with shipments from mainland Ukraine due to tougher customs clearance procedures at Ukrainian-Crimean borders.

Moreover, the price growth is backed by still low growers' outputs.

It should also be noted that current apple prices are a third higher year-on-year in Crimea. However, many market participants expect prices to start decreasing in the following week, when the supply of local apples is expected to grown together with shipments from mainland Ukraine.
