Ukrainian fresh produce price index sharply down due to Crimea blockade

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has fallen by 7.3% in the week from September 19th to 25th, after an increase of 2.9% a week before, due to Crimea blockade, which has resulted in a significant rise in the supply in the internal market.

«The main contribution to a fall in the price index was made by cucumbers, which prices now take just a third of those registered in the beginning of the week», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Crimea blockade has also negatively affected the Ukrainian apple market».

At the same time, tomato prices kept on growing. Onions also became more expensive. Prices of white cabbage and carrots slightly went down due to their growing supply. In general, the price index of traditional vegetables grew by 3.7% week-on-week, while potato prices fell by 21.9% due to active harvesting.
