Ukrainian AJC manufacturers take on EU market
Ukrainian manufacturers of apple juice concentrate (AJC) plan to expand their presence in the EU market, according to Fruit-Inform. They expect their sales to the EU to raise by 20-30% this year.
The previous season was quite successful for the Ukrainian AJC sector despite rather pessimistic export expectations due to the Russian embargo. However, all concerns have been falsified as almost all volumes previously exported to Russia were shipped to the European market. Moreover, Ukraine's AJC exports to the EU went up by 20,000 tons year-on-year and were twice as high as the preferential import quota set by the EU in 2014.
According to Fruit-Inform, Ukrainian processors have raised their AJC manufacturing volumes by 30% in this season and are sure of high demand for their produce in the EU market. Such expectations are based on relatively low prices of Ukrainian AJC and its high acidity. The two factors have favored Ukrainian AJC to have become the main competitor of Chinese produce in the EU market. In addition, the EU expects a decrease in its apple production and has AJC transit stocks significantly lower year-on-year.
All-time high demand for raw apples and record high purchase prices fixed by processors are a direct evidence of an increase in Ukrainian AJC production this year. According to Fruit-Inform, processors are now ready to purchase raw apples at UAH 3.50-4.00/kg (EUR 0.14-0.16/kg), 4 times as high as in the previous season.
More detailed information about the Ukrainian AJC market developments and trends will be presented at the 12th International Conference «Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2015. Reload» (December 1-3, Kiev, Ukraine).
The conference will also host the 5th International Trade Forum which involves more than 20 Ukrainian supermarket chains and leading importers ready to negotiate with fruit and vegetable suppliers.
