Moldovan apple production reaches 5-year low
Moldovan apple production has reached five-year low in the season 2015/16, according to WAPA.
The production volumes totaled just 250,000 tons, a decrease of 40% year-on-year. We would remind you that Moldovan apple production totaled 420,000 tons in 2014, an increase of 60% compared with the year 2013 and the highest production level over the past 10 years.
The sector experts connect such a sharp fall in production with unfavorable weather conditions registered in the country. As Fruit-Inform has already informed, abnormal drought observed in Moldova in the end of 2014 has seriously affected apple plantations. Orchards were also under the negative effect of lack of rainfall during fruit setting. At the same time, weather conditions during blossoming period were rather cold, which affected pollination.
