Prices at Dubovo Wholesale Market, Khmelnytskyi, went up to UAH 28-30/kg (USD 1.19-1.28/kg) from UAH 26/kg (USD 1.11/kg) and higher a week before. As a result, UAH prices grew by 70%, and prices in the USD equivalent went up by 11% year-on-year at Dubovo Wholesale Market.
At the same time, prices did not change at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast, and still vary between UAH 24-25/kg (USD 1.02-1.06/kg). The price stability is also registered at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, and bananas are now offered at UAH 23/kg (USD 0.98/kg) there. It should be noted that prices varied between UAH 15-18/kg (USD 0.95-1.15/kg) at Kopani Wholesale Market in the same period of the previous year. As regards Shuvar Wholesale Market, bananas were offered at UAH 17-19/kg (USD 1.08-1.20/kg) closer to the end of 2014.
Fruit-Inform analysts connect an increase in banana prices with closer New Year holidays and a traditional rise in the demand. At the same time, the supply of bananas has been decreasing in the Ukrainian market, as importers prefer to purchase bananas in small volumes due to fear of a fall in consumption after significant price growth.
