Production of traditional vegetables down in Poland

Polish production of traditional vegetables has significantly gone down in 2015, according to FreshMarket.

Production of all vegetables decreased by almost 20% in Poland with the most significant fall in production to have been registered in the segment of traditional vegetables: down by 22% year-on-year to just 2.33 mln tons against 3 mln tons a year before.

A decrease in production is connected with unfavorable weather conditions (abnormally hot and drought weather in June-July and the second wave of drought in August).

Lower supply of traditional vegetables is also confirmed by their higher prices. In September 2015 (after harvesting) prices of traditional vegetables were 55% higher year-on-year, and current prices are averagely twice as high as registered in Poland in December 2014.
