Ukrainian fresh produce price index sharply down after holidays
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has gone down by 16.8% after the New Year holidays. However, the price index grew by 47% before the holidays; therefore, a following decrease was unable to compensate previous growth.
«A decrease in prices was registered only in the segment of greenhouse vegetables after holidays, while prices of traditional vegetables and fruits grew», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «However, price fall in the segment of greenhouse vegetables was so considerable that it had fully compensated growth in prices of other fruit and vegetable categories».
Prices of traditional vegetables started growing thanks to more active demand in the market and more difficult logistics in the country. They have become 10.5% more expensive in Ukraine since the end of December. At the same time potato prices were stable.
Oranges were the only fruit category which became less expensive due to higher supply. Prices of other fruits (except apples) went up with a cumulative increase in the fresh fruit price index totaling 3.6%.
