Kazakh melon and watermelon production reaches record high in 2015

Kazakh melon and watermelon production grew by 8% year-on-year in 2015, according to Fruit-Inform. As a result, production volumes were the highest over at least 5 past years.

Growers harvested 2.1 mln tons of melons and watermelons in 2015 against just 1.9 mln tons a year before. Moreover, production has grown by about 50% over the past 5 years.

Fruit-Inform analysts connect a rise in production with both an increase of 2% in yields and expansion of areas under those crops: 94,200 ha in 2015 against 88,800 ha in 2014.
