Third week of negative trend in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has decreased by 2.2% in the week from February 20th to 26th. As a result, the price index has gone down by 9.7% over the past three weeks.
«As a week before, negative price trend was registered in all fresh produce categories due to low internal market demand for fruits and vegetables», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform.
Prices of traditional vegetables kept on falling, and a slight decrease in prices was registered in all categories with the most significant of -7.1% in the onion segment.
Greenhouse vegetables also became less expensive due to low demand, and their prices went down by 2.9% week-on-week.
As regards fruits, the most significant fall in prices was observed in the apple segment: -6.3%. Negative price trend was connected with rather large supply of produce in the Ukrainian market and its high assortment. Banana prices also went down; however, that fact was of temporary character, as prices of imported fruits seriously depended on the Ukrainian hryvnia exchange rates.
