Ukrainian growers expect good apricot production in 2016

Apricot orchards have successfully made it through winter, according to Fruit-Inform.

We would remind you that we have already informed about significant losses of apricot crop in Crimea: due to a drop in temperature in late March, some apricot farms have reported of losses of up to 100%.

Apricot crop was also under threat in Ukraine: on the night of March 19 air temperature dropped to two degrees below zero in the southern regions. However, according to growers, their losses were insignificant, as the majority of orchards had not started blossoming yet. It should be noted that most considerable losses (up to 30%) were reported by farms, which orchards were located in lowlands.

We would remind you that the situation was less favorable last year. Sharp drops in temperature in January 2015 and frosts in March and April resulted in dramatic losses of stonefruit crop in Ukraine (up to 90% in some farms). This year growers expect their apricot production to be rather high.
