Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index slightly up week-on-week
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 3% in the week from April 9th to 15th, after a fall of 4.8% a week before. Despite a week-on-week increase in the price index, many fresh produce categories became less expensive in Ukraine last week.
«An increase in the price index was registered mainly thanks to greenhouse vegetables, which prices grew by 8.5%. As their consumption had been seasonally growing, their share in Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable consumption structure also increased», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «A slight increase in potato prices should also be noted, as is has been registered for the first time over relatively long period».
Meanwhile, prices of traditional vegetables went down by 4.5%. White cabbages became less expensive due to growing supply of early produce, and onion prices decreased in view of growers' attempts to attract funds for their spring field works. Fruit prices also went down by 2% thanks to less expensive oranges and apples.
