Further decrease in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has decreased by another 2.5% in the week from May 14th to 20th, following a trend of the previous four weeks, when it fell by 48.7%.
«A decrease in prices was registered in all fruit and vegetable market segments (except potatoes) last week», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Even a mixed price trend in the segment of greenhouse vegetables due to rainy and cloudy weather has resulted in a slight decrease in their prices».
However, the main contribution to a negative trend in the price index was made by fruits. Strawberries became 26.7% less expensive, and apple prices went down by 7.7%. The market participants also reported of arrival of first quantities of domestic sweet cherries.
Traditional vegetables became less expensive thanks to a decrease of a third in white cabbage prices. Prices of early potatoes almost equaled those fixed for last year's ones, and this fact will most likely exert pressure on prices in the following week.
