Blueberry production to sharply grow in Ukraine
The supply of blueberries may sharply grow in Ukraine in the nearest seasons, said Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, at the 7th International Conference «Berries of Ukraine-2016: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market».
«Blueberries show the most rapid production growth rates among berry crops in the world. Ukrainian blueberry production has totaled 1,000 tons in 2015 and is expected to reach 1,300-1,500 tons in 2016. Commercial areas under blueberries have been rapidly expanding and now amount to 1,000 ha, 50% higher than under raspberries. In addition, plantations laid out 3-4 years ago are now coming into bearing. As a result, the supply of blueberries will most likely sharply grow in Ukraine in the nearest time», said Ms. Getman.
It should also be noted that a sharp rise in blueberry supply and competition with less expensive wild blueberries can result in a decrease of at least 20% in blueberry prices in Ukraine next year.
