Apricot prices down in some regions of Ukraine

Apricots have become sharply less expensive in the western regions of Ukraine and Kiev over the past weekend, according to Fruit-Inform.

Prices have fallen by 33-50% at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, and now sellers offer their apricots at UAH 12-25/kg (EUR 0.43-0.90/kg), depending on quality, fruit size and shipment volume, there.

Apricot prices vary between UAH 25-27/kg (EUR 0.90-0.97/kg) at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev, a decrease of 20% over the past weekend.

The market analysts connect such a sharp fall in prices with rapidly growing supply of both domestic and Moldovan produce in the Ukrainian market. According to Shuvar Informational & Analytical Center, the supply of apricots has grown 3-4 times at Shuvar vehicle trading platform over the past weekend. Furthermore, shelf life of fruits is rather limited due to hot weather, and this fact also forces sellers to reduce their prices.

It should be noted that apricot prices have already fallen below last year’s levels in Ukraine. We would remind you that a year before apricots were offered at prices averagely 20% higher than present levels.
