Ukrainian watermelon season starts
Ukrainian market operators have reported of arrival of first volumes of domestic watermelons this week, according to Fruit-Inform. This year the watermelon season has started with no delay compared with 2015, and now sellers offer watermelons grown in summer greenhouses.
The lowest prices are quoted at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast: UAH 5-7/kg (EUR 0.18-0.26/kg). It is followed by Pochatok Wholesale Market, Odessa, where watermelons are sold at UAH 8-10/kg (EUR 0.29-0.36/kg).
Prices at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, vary between UAH 10/kg (EUR 0.36/kg).
It should be noted that watermelons were sold only at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast in early July 2015, and prices averaged UAH 15/kg (EUR 0.60/kg) at that moment.
