Ukraine: wholesale prices for apples half as high as a year before

Apple prices at Ukrainian wholesale markets are averagely half as high as registered in the beginning of July 2015, according to Fruit-Inform.

In particular, current prices of apples vary between UAH 9-13/kg (EUR 0.33-0.47/kg), depending on variety, at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, against no lower than UAH 18/kg a year before.

Sellers at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast, offer their apples at UAH 7-12/kg (EUR 0.25-0.43/kg), a decrease of 41-55% year-on-year.

The highest prices are now quoted at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev: UAH 12-18/kg (EUR 0.43-0.65/kg), depending on quality, variety and shipment volume. It should be noted that they were 33%-44% higher a year before.

The market analysts connect such a sharp year-on-year fall in prices with rather large supply of last year’s apples in the Ukrainian market against a background of the start of the season of early varieties. Meanwhile, the demand for apples is not high now, as buyers often prefer seasonal fruits and berries.

More detailed information about the Ukrainian apple sector development will be presented at the 6th International Conference «Apple Business of Ukraine-2016», which is to be held on August 11-12, 2016, Cherkasy, Ukraine.
