Wholesale prices of cucumbers sharply up in Ukraine this week
Cucumber prices have been rapidly growing in Ukraine. According to Fruit-Inform, cucumbers have become at least 20%% more expensive at Ukrainian wholesale markets since the beginning of this week.
In particular, cucumbers are now offered at UAH 14-18/kg (EUR 0.51-0.66/kg) at Pochatok Wholesale Market, Odessa, against no higher than UAH 15/kg (EUR 0.55/kg) this Monday.
Prices have also grown by 25-30% at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev, and reached UAH 13-15/kg (EUR 0.48-0.55/kg).
Sellers at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast, offer their produce at UAH 12-13/kg (EUR 0.44-0.48/kg), an increase of 40% week-on-week.
The sharpest rise in prices is observed at Shuvar Wholesale Market: up by 60% to UAH 8-11/kg (EUR 0.29-0.40/kg).
The Ukrainian market participants connect positive price trend with rather limited supply of cucumbers and high demand for produce. It should also be noted that current prices fixed for Ukrainian cucumbers are already twice as high as registered in late July 2015.
