Kazakhstan: apple production varietal structure to change in the nearest time
Fruit-Inform analysts expect Kazakhstani apple production varietal structure to change in the nearest time with Aport variety to reduce its presence in the market. Such expectations are based on the results of the fundamental study «Apple Business in Ukraine, Russia & Kazakhstan — 2015: Present Situation and Prospects in Growing, Storage, Handling, Processing and Marketing».
Despite Kazakhstan boasting its Aport variety, local professional growers will lose their interest in it in the nearest years, as it is a rather high-maintenance variety with a storage period amounting to just a few months. Meanwhile, Kazakhstani growers will prefer more traditional varieties, such as Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Idared.
For the present, Aport is the second most produced apple variety in Kazakhstan with the share of 12% in Kazakhstani apple production in 2015. Idared ranked third and accounted for 11%. Golden Delicious was the most popular variety with the share of 27%.
