Crimea: onion prices up by a third over weekend
Crimean sellers have managed to raise their onion prices by a third over the past weekend, according to Fruit-Inform.
In particular, current prices of onions fixed at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, vary between RUB 10-17/kg (USD 0.16-0.27/kg), depending on quality, variety and shipment volume. For comparison, minimum prices stood at RUB 7/kg (USD 0.11/kg) last Friday.
The market participants connect a rise in onion prices with significantly higher trading activity before the New Year holidays. Meanwhile, the supply of high-quality onions is rather limited now in the peninsula.
At the same time, it should be noted that onions are still 18-20% less expensive year-on-year despite positive trend in prices. Meanwhile, the market participants expect prices to continue to grow under conditions of stable sales rates.
