Low demand and growing supply affect onion prices in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstani growers have managed to return to their harvesting campaign thanks to better weather conditions in the country. As a result, the supply of onions grew significantly, according to Fruit-Inform, and prices fell by about 25% since the beginning of this week.
Now growers are ready to offer their onions at KZT 70-100/kg (USD 0.20-0.30/kg), while a week before minimum prices stood at KZT 100/kg (USD 0.30/kg).
In addition to growing supply, farmers connect negative trend with low demand for onions in the country. The internal market sales rates are rather low, while exporters focused on shipments to Russia are uninterested in purchasing onions due to a decrease in prices of domestic produce in the Russian Federation.
