Ukrainian onion exports to Belarus up more than 11 times year-on-year
In the season 2016/17, Ukraine has increased its onion exports to Belarus 11.4 times compared with the previous season, according to Fruit-Inform. As a result, Belarus became the leading importer of onions from Ukraine, while in the season 2015/16 Belarus had ranked just 5th.
Ukrainian onion exports to Belarus totaled 11,400 tons in the season 2016/17, against totaling just 1,000 tons a season before. As a result, Belarus accounted for about 62% of Ukraine’s total onion exports, which amounted to 18,300 tons, an increase of 41% year-on-year.
Belarus was followed by Iraq and the UK in onion imports from Ukraine. It should be noted that Ukraine’s onion exports to Iraq halved year-on-year, while shipments to the UK more than doubled.
