Ukraine: prices of greenhouse tomatoes down by 70% week-on-week
Prices of Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes have been rapidly going and have already fallen by 70-72% compared with a week before, according to Fruit-Inform.
Now greenhouse farms are ready to sell their tomatoes at UAH 5-6/kg (EUR 0.16-0.20/kg). For comparison, prices stood at least at UAH 18/kg (EUR 0.59/kg) a week before.
The Ukrainian market participants connect such a rapid decrease in prices with a significant rise in the supply of field-grown tomatoes, which minimum prices are now fixed at UAH 1/kg (EUR 0.03/kg). It should also be noted that prices have fallen despite stable exports to Belarus.
Nevertheless, current prices of Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes are 20-25% higher year-on-year in Ukraine. However, the market participants expect them to continue to go down, as internal market sales rates are still moderate, and greenhouse farms have already reported of rather large volumes of unsold stocks.
