Poland: sour cherry production down by more than 60% in 2017
The Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) say of a sharp decrease in sour cherry production this year, according to FreshMarket.
Polish sour cherry production totaled 70,000 tons, a decrease of 64% compared with 2016, when it had amounted to 195,000 tons.
A sharp fall in production is connected with unfavorable weather conditions during blossom period and abundant rainfall.
It should also be noted that lower production of sour cherries negatively affected their prices. According to Fruit-Inform, in the end of the season Polish processors purchased sour cherries at prices averagely 9 times as high as in 2016.
