Poland: tomato prices continue to grow
Polish greenhouse centers have been steadily raising their tomato prices, according to FreshMarket.
Now growers are shipping their tomatoes at 0.66-0.73 euro/kg, an increase of 5-6% since the beginning of this week.
The Polish market operators connect a rise in prices with lower supply of greenhouse tomatoes in the country, as greenhouse farms had reported of a fall in their outputs due to a cold spell. Meanwhile, high demand for tomatoes is shown by both domestic market wholesalers and exporters.
As a result, current prices of Polish tomatoes are averagely 17% higher than those fixed in the same period of the previous year.
