Ukrainian growers concerned about white cabbage sales rates
Ukrainian growers are now seriously concerned about low sales of white cabbage in the country, according to Fruit-Inform.
The majority of Ukrainian farmers go on their harvesting campaign; therefore, the supply has been growing in the market. Meanwhile, the demand for white cabbage is still extremely low. In view of limited shelf life, wholesale companies and retail chains are ready to buy produce in small volumes, as the majority of farmers offer low-quality white cabbage.
As a result, the supply significantly prevails over the demand in the Ukrainian market, and growers continue to reduce their prices. White cabbage has become 17-25% less expensive since the beginning of this week, and now prices vary between UAH 1.50-2.50/kg (EUR 0.05-0.08/kg), and nonstandard white cabbage is offered at UAH 1/kg (EUR 0.03/kg).
It should also be noted that current white cabbage prices are averagely 21% lower year-on-year in Ukraine. However, Ukrainian market experts expect the supply to sharply go down in the second half of the season, followed by a rapid rise in prices.
