Drastic drop in Abkhazian mandarin exports to Russia
Over the current season (which started in October 2017) Abkhazia shipped to Russia 67% less mandarins, as compared to the previous year, reports TASS referring to The Department of Statistics of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Abkhazia (SCC).
“Usually citrus season lasts from October till the end of January. As of January 9, 2018, Russia imported 5,400 tons of mandarins from Abkhazia. Meanwhile, as of the same date of 2017, this figure amounted to 15,000 tons, and in 2016 to 22,300 tons”, reports agency expert.
According to the SCC of Abkhazia, export volumes of feijoa and persimmon have also decreased. In 2015 and 2016 Abkhazia exported 296 and 215 tons of feijoa, respectively, while in 2017 exports of this fruit from Abkhazia amounted just to 109 tons. As for persimmon exports, in 2017 only 77 tons were exported, while in 2016 and 2015 Abkhazia shipped to Russia 258 and 1081 tons of persimmons, respectively.
