Poland: carrot prices almost double since beginning of 2018
The situation in the Polish carrot market shows a positive price trend, and carrot prices have gone up by 60-70% since the beginning of 2018, reports Fruit-Inform referring to FreshMarket.
According to Polish market experts, now domestic growers fix their carrot prices at PLN 0.75-0-95/kg (EUR 0.18-0.23/kg). For comparison, during the first working days of 2018 traders did not manage to raise their prices above PLN 0.60/kg (EUR 0.14/kg).
The market players link a rise in carrot prices in Poland with sufficient growth in the demand. Moreover, the supply of carrots dropped due to smaller shipments of carrots from unequipped storage facilities.
It is also worth mentioning that current prices of carrots in Poland are 2-2.1 times as high as in the same period of 2016. Industry experts report of a fall in carrot production in Poland to be the main reason for such a price trend. In addition, many farmers faced problems with carrot storage, as quality of produce had been worsened by unfavorable weather conditions.
