Livestock numbers in Ukraine dropped from last year
According to State Statistics Committee, the number of cattle, kept be all categories of breeders as of August 1, 2004, was 7.96 million heads, which is 13.3 percent less than year ago. The number of cows dropped 8.1 percent from the same date last year - to 4.26 million heads.
The number of hogs in Ukraine as of August 1 this year was 7.06 million heads, dropping 21.7 percent from August 1, 2003.
The number of poultry dropped just slightly from year ago - to 183.69 million heads from 183.75 million heads as of August 1, 2003.
The number of sheep and goats in early August this year was 2.04 million heads, which is 6.5 percent less than last year.
