Tomato processing season is coming to an end in Ukraine.
The season of industrial processing of tomatoes is coming to an end in Ukraine. Producers of canned tomatoes and juice report about weekly decrease of raw material supply because of weather conditions deterioration that results in price growth. Raw materials supply will fully stop with first frosts, despite of large amount of tomatoes of late varieties remaining on field.
In the whole, the ending season can be concerned to be the less successful for many tomato producers, as well as for major part of processing enterprises. The producers were forced to increase sufficiently expenses tomato protection from blight in vegetation period because of negative weather conditions - that led to their self-cost increase. Many of farmers have not been able to cope with blight and were forced to underplough the whole tomato fields. The processors in many regions experienced serious problems with raw materials purchase because of tomato price growth on fresh market. The processors which are concentrated in general tomato production zones (Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa oblasts) were lucky to be in the best situation; they managed to purchase more raw materials than their competitors from the other regions. However this season the part of tomato juice produced from imported tomato paste will be much bigger than in the previous year.
In September of the current year the production of vegetable and fruit juices and nectars increased in one and a half times comparing to August. "Sandora", "Jaffa" and "Vinnifrut" remained among juice production leaders, they produced 65% of juices and nectars during first nine months of the current year, according to the data of official statistics.
