State of winter crops in Ukraine predominantly good and fair - weather centre
Rains, fallen during the period of October 1 to 10, have improved the conditions of soil moisturising under winter crops in Ukraine, Ukraine's Centre for Hydro-Meteorology has informed.
As of October 10 optimal and fair moisturising of soil was observed almost all over the territory of the country, except for some areas in Kherson, Donetsk Oblasts and the AR of Crimea, where the moisture stocks in ploughing layer did not exceed 3 to 10 mm.
The weather centre specialists said that the wheat and rye, sown in optimal terms (prior to mid-September), were in the phase of initial and mass tillering. On later plantings the plants developed third leave or shot out.
The density of winter crops stand is 250 to 470 plants per 1 sq. m, on better plantings - up to 600 plants.
On the whole, the state of winter crops is predominantly good and fair, the specialists said.
