First frosts caused increasing the rates of vegetable price growth
Dmitriy Chernyak, market information specialist, Odesa AMP (Agricultural Marketing Project) office informs that this night first frosts on ground have been observed in Odesa oblast. According to forecasts night frosts will continue to take place until Thursday night.
As a rule, when frosts start, the market supply of such field crops as tomato, egg-plants and pepper shortens sufficiently and as a result price on these commodities is growing. Also, because of necessity to heat greenhouses, the farmers who are specialized on greenhouse production, cucumber in particular, bear more expenses.
Market operators forecast some strengthening of price growth trend concerning tomato, egg-plants, pepper, cucumber and some other vegetable crops; but only future days will show definite figures. For example, according to AMP information prices for cucumber in Crimea have already jumped up. This week greenhouse cucumbers were sold on USD $ 1.3/kg
