This week prices on cucumbers doubled in Crimea

Aleksander Lekhno, the Market Information Specialist of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), reports that due to the abrupt deterioration of weather conditions in Crimea the prices on some vegetable crops grew up much on the Simferopol wholesale market during past week. The most sufficient jump was observed for cucumber price - it increased nearly twice. The peak of cucumber price growth took place on Wednesday when price had increased up to USD $ 1.32/kg. By Friday the cost has gone down up to USD $ 0.94/kg because of supply growth and lesser demand to this commodity.

The price on ground tomatoes has grown also. Past week this commodity cost USD $ 0.28/kg, at the present moment tomatoes of "plum" variety are sold for USD $ 0.56-0.60/kg. Besides, not ripened green tomatoes were supplied on market, that proves the fact that the producers are afraid to leave tomatoes on field because of low temperatures; they try to sell maximum amounts of commodities before frosts come.

On the whole the assortment of fruit and vegetable commodities and the number of sellers working with this group on Simferopol wholesale market decreased sufficiently, that indicates the formation of price growth trend for the major fruits and vegetables until the next season.
