Agrarian policy minister filed a resignation

Agrarian Policy Minister of Ukraine Viktor Slauta has handed in his resignation, Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister for Agriculture Ivan Kyrylenko said on December 16 to the session of the Cabinet of Ministers, Interfax-Ukraine news agency informed.

"He filed his application because he leaves for Parliament to work. It is a normal thing. He worked excellently", the Vice Prime Minister said.

Until recent time Viktor Slauta combined his work in the executive power with a parliamentary mandate. Such a combination contradicts to the effective provisions of Ukrainian Constitution. A draft resolution has been registered in Parliament about cancellation of his parliamentary authority ahead of schedule, the news agency writes.

Slauta, born 1952, has been on the position of Agrarian Policy Minister since January 2004, when he took over for his predecessor on the post Serhiy Ryzhuk.

Before being appointed the minister, he was elected People's Deputy of Ukraine from the faction of Agrarian Party (now renamed into People's Agrarian Party). Since October 2003 he has been a member of parliamentary faction "Regions of Ukraine" (informally headed by the current PM Viktor Yanukovych) and a deputy head of one of the parliamentary committees.

He was elected to Parliament in spring 2002 from electorate division No. 63 (Donetsk Oblast), before this election having worked as Deputy Head of Donetsk State Regional Administration.
