Ukrainian producers of premixes suggest introducing import tax

Ukrainian producers of premixes and feed additives suggest to introduce import duty in the amount of 10 to 15 percent for these kinds of products, Vasyl Lisovenko, General Director of one of Ukraine's major feed producing corporations has told reporters.

He said this measure would support Ukrainian producers of these kinds of products, who are already boosting the volumes of their local production. The move, one the one hand, would reduce supplies of import preparations, and on the other hand - would increase earnings of the budget, which could be subsequently invested into development of this industry.

He said the corporation had already directed the proposal to the Agrarian Policy Ministry, but it remained so far unanswered.

According to Lisovenko, import feed additives are currently sharing about 80 percent of Ukrainian market, which poses difficulties in promotion of the locally produced ones.

There are about 15 enterprises in Ukraine, involved in production of premixes. They are now capable of meeting about 50 percent of local demand for these products.
