Prices on cabbage in Poland are three times lower then in Ukraine
There is a rather unusual situation on the Ukrainian cabbage market. In 2004 despite of the contraction of the production lands there was a rather good cabbage yield; however, most probably the cabbage consumption rapidly increased. The commodity losses were also significant. As a result, the wholesale prices on cabbage have jumped up to USD $ 0.34-0.38/kg during the past few weeks; this week the producers are willing to supply cabbage on USD $ 0.47/kg on terms of self delivery, cause the offers of cabbage are few in number and the demand on cabbage remains definitely high.
At the same time the prices are much lower in the neighboring Poland. According to the information of some market players, it is possible today to purchase large volumes of cabbage from the farmers' storages even on USD 0.04/kg. On the wholesale market "Bronishe" today the price on cabbage was about USD $ 0.15/kg. This fact let us expect the situation when cabbage will be supplied on the Ukrainian market from the neighboring countries during 1-2 months.
By the way, price on onion on "Bronishe" market is also significantly lower than in Ukraine. Today average price on onion was USD $ 0.10/kg, at the time when in Ukraine the wholesale price on this commodity reached USD $ 0.22-0.26/kg.
