Prices on apples in Poland are still lower than in Ukraine

At this time in Ukraine a significant price growth on marketable apples is going on as a result of the depletion of apple reserves; the prices on these commodities remain relatively moderate in the neighboring Poland.

As of this morning, on the wholesale market "Bronishe" the apples of Golden Delicious variety were the most expensive; they were sold in average on USD $ 0.6/kg. In Ukraine the wholesale price on the same quality apples is not lower than USD $ 0.75-0.95/kg. Moreover, in Poland the prices on other apple varieties were significantly lower than on Golden Delicious apples. The cheapest were the apples of Elstar variety, sold on USD $ 0.33/kg. As of today, the average wholesale price on apples accounted to about USD $ 0.43/kg that is approximately USD $ 0.18/kg lower than the apple price on Ukrainian market.

As it was once and again repeated by Agricultural Marketing Project, apple production in Ukraine is not able to cover the demand of the inner market. The constant contraction of apple orchard acreage deteriorates situation together with the simultaneous demand growth. The largest apple suppliers on the Ukrainian market are Zakarpattya and Vinnitsa oblasts, the sufficiently huge volumes are produced also by Khmelnitskiy, Dnepropetrovsk and Kherson oblasts. The most severe deficit on marketable apples is observed in Kyiv city, Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts.
