The USA apples appeared on the Ukrainian market
The deficit of the high-quality apples produced in Ukraine is observed this season; as a result the marketable apples from the US appeared on Poltava market. This information was provided by Yuriy Konyaev, the Market Information Specialist of Poltava office, Agricultural Marketing Project. As he said, the apples of the US origin are of a good appearance; they are sold on about USD $ 2.84/kg.
Agricultural Marketing Project informed several times that the contraction of apple orchards acreage in Ukraine and the insufficient rates of the new orchards establishment are creating some good conditions for import of this commodity to Ukraine. High prices - the result of the deficit - may presuppose the quick return of the investments made to the establishment of the effective apple orchards in Ukraine.
According to the experts' evaluations, the self-cost of the marketable apple production in Ukraine as a rule does not exceed USD $ 0.05-0.08/kg; at the same time the wholesale prices rarely descend lower than USD $ 0.56/kg in case of at least two months of apple storage.
