Greenhouse tomatoes in Poltava are cheapening thanks to supply increase from Sumy

The supply volumes of greenhouse tomatoes increased this week rapidly on Poltava retail markets. According to the information provided by Yuriy Konyaev, the Market Information Specialist of Poltava office, Agricultural Marketing Project, the supply of this commodity grew 1.5-2 times comparing to the beginning of month.

The increase of tomato supply led to the significant decrease of the retail price. At the present moment greenhouse tomato costs about USD $ 1.7/kg that is 25-30% less than before the rapid supply growth.

As Yuriy Konyaev said, at present the major part of tomatoes sold on Poltava market are supplied from Sumy oblast. The share of greenhouse tomatoes out this region is about 70% on the local markets, according to his estimations.

We should note that today the wholesale price on tomatoes was USD $ 1.52/kg in Kyiv, USD $ 1.9/kg in Kherson.
