Peach trees are blooming in Odesa oblast; partially the buds on trees of early peach varieties are affected by frosts in March
According to the information provided by Dmitriy Chernyak, the Market Information Specialist, Odesa office of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), the farmers - orchardists of the southern rayons of Odesa oblast report about the start of mass blooming of peach trees of all varieties. Some farmers say that up to 20-30% of fruit-buds on trees of early varieties are damaged in their orchards; evidently it is the consequence of the March frosts. The specialists mention that this year the blooming started 10 days later than in the previous year; that's why, apparently, only the early varieties were damaged. It is impossible to evaluate the losses caused by these frosts in the central rayons of Odesa oblast cause the blooming has not started there yet. At the same time, to the opinion of the specialists, the later blooming reduces the chance for peach trees to be affected by frosts; this fact should benefit the future harvest.
