Odesa early cabbage competes successfully with Zakarpattya cabbage on Kyiv wholesale market

According to the information provided by Anatoliy Yarovoy, the Price Monitoring Specialist of Agricultural Marketing Project, the price decrease on early white cabbage is progressing on the wholesale market "Farmer" better known as "Troyeshchina".

The average price on early cabbage decreased comparing to the previous day on USD $ 0.3-0.4/kg because of the recently supplied early cabbage produced in the southern regions of Odesa oblast. Odesa cabbage was very actively sold on USD $ 1.98/kg at the time when Zakarpattya sellers were trying to keep the prices not lower than USD $ 2.17/kg. A. Yarovoy mentions that the quantity of Odesa cabbage was not very great, and the trade proceeded lively. So the price on early cabbage may increase tomorrow morning if there are no new supplies of this commodity.

The significant growth of early cabbage supply resulted in price decrease on white cabbage of 2004 harvest. During a day it went down on about USD $ 0.04 and is amounted now to USD $ 0.6-0.63/kg.

We'd note that less than a week ago early white cabbage can be bought at the best case on USD $ 2.77-2.97/kg.

It would be wise if market players pay attention to the increased transport expenses which may also seriously influence the prices. The difference in prices on early vegetables and berries in the regions of the traditional production of these commodities (Zakarpattya, Crimea, South of Odesa oblast, Kherson oblast) and in the main consumption regions (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Lviv) may occur greater than usual. This fact has been already confirmed by the information from Lviv where early cabbage from Zakarpattya cost yesterday USD $ 1.18/kg.
